Split Fiction has sold a staggering 1 million copies in just 48 hours, making it the studio's top-performing title following the success of It Takes Two, which has achieved over 23 million lifetime sales. This is good news for Hazelight Studios, who took to Bluesky to celebrate the milestone.
This success comes as no surprise, as Hazelight Studios has clearly mastered the art of split-screen co-op adventures. We recently reviewed Split Fiction and gave it a 9 out of 10, praising its inventive level design and wild gameplay mechanics that remain fresh throughout its 13–14-hour playtime.
And this is only the beginning of Split Fiction’s rise. The game launched just recently, on March 7, and considering it took It Takes Two three years to surpass 20 million copies sold, who knows how long it will take for Split Fiction to surpass those numbers? One thing is certain: it’s going to be an exciting year for Hazelight.
Right now, players are still diving into the game with friends, encountering hilarious moments early on. For those without a co-op partner, Hazelight and EA have created a dedicated Discord server to help players find someone to team up with—fitting, given the game’s core themes of friendship and cooperation.
As for those wanting to play across different platforms, there’s no need to worry—Split Fiction supports cross-play and the Friend’s Pass system, allowing players to invite a friend to join them even if they don’t own the game. It’s yet another example of the studios’ commitment to innovation.
With its rapid success and critical acclaim, Split Fiction is shaping up to be a strong contender for Game of the Year, potentially going head-to-head with massive AAA titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
