I adore Greek mythology and Ancient Greece history. It’s probably one of my favorite historic time periods to immerse myself in. While I still have my gripes with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, it reignited my interest in virtually exploring a transformative period for humanity.
I’ve talked about my top 5 recommendations if you have that same itch, but I want to emphasize a particular game that ties perfectly to The Odyssey and could even be considered a sequel of some sort: Hades 2. Hear me out.

Why You Should Play Hades 2 After Watching The Odyssey
Just like the original Hades, in which you help Zagreus escape the Underworld, you’ll meet plenty of mythological figures in Hades 2.
Naturally, the Greek Gods are a prominent fixture, but you’ll also run into new faces absent from the first title, such as Icarus, Nemesis, or Eris. Among these new faces, there are multiple key characters from Homer’s The Odyssey, including Odysseus himself, Circe, Polyphemus, and Scylla.
One of the major reveals of the sequel is that the narrator fans have come to know and love from the very first title is, in fact, Homer, and among the many things he describes in full detail is a full side quest dedicated to Odysseus’ past.
In the story, the now former King of Ithaca has died and is refugeed in the Crossroads, a sanctuary between the surface world and the Underworld. Before dying, he divorced Penelope, and as you continue Melinoe’s journey, you’ll come to realize he has some unfinished business with the likes of Circe, Polyphemus, and Scylla, that being the name of the prophecy you need to fulfill if you want a 100% completion rate.
Meeting each is also packed with visual references to the Odyssey. If you get the chance to visit Circe, you’ll find a nice herd of pigs. Fight Polyphemus, and he’ll use sheep to heal himself. Scylla, well, that one you’ll have to experience for yourself. Even the beast Charybdis is in the game, but not much in the way of reasoning with it.
The dialogue in the game is fascinating as it is, but just like in the previous games where you could help Achilles reconcile with his past, the Odysseus storyline is the perfect companion to the Nolan film. That being said, it might take some time for you to get the quest, so enjoy Melinoe’s ride and talking with the rest of the cast on your way to it.
