Despite being months following Monster Hunter Wilds’ release, the game is still getting an average of 14-30k players everyday even with optimization issues. That just goes to show that while there are many dropping the game for its myriad of issues, some are still going back to do a handful of hunts, including slaying the challenging Omega Planetes which just arrived last month.

So you’ve seen the credits, now what? In Monster Hunter fashion, the game has just begun and now’s the time to continue the grind. Here are some advanced tips to help you navigate through Monster Hunter Wilds’ brutal endgame.

Bring Essential Items

Organize your item loadout!

One of the first things you should do when you’re finally done with the main story is to organize your loadout. Only bring essential items with you. Meaning, you should always have these items in your item loadout:

  • Mega Potion
  • Potion
  • Tranquilizer Bombs
  • Mega Armorskin
  • Mega Demondrug
  • Nullberries
  • Herbal Extract
  • Dust Of Life
  • Lifepowder
  • Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap
  • Well-Done Steak
  • Max Potion
  • Ancient Potion
  • Flashbang
  • Dungpod

These items are essential to making your hunts easier. Items like Mega Armorskin and Demondrug provide an extra boost in your Attack and Defense, making you less likely to die from high-damage dealing monsters like Lagiacrus and Mizutsune

Lifepowders and Dust of Life’s are always important so don’t forget to keep crafting them before every hunt. They are needed to save other hunters in moments when they’re one sliver of health away from carting. A simple use of these would save them from imminent collapse, saving you the risk of failing the quest.

Traps like Shock and Pitfall are also necessary in case you want to speed the hunt up. Capturing monsters significantly reduces hunting time as you don’t need to put its health to 0. Instead, you only need to do about 25% of its health and capture the monster by placing a trap and a Tranq Bomb. Capturing monsters is also useful when you’re pressed for time, or you have one cart left.

To save the time of having to navigate between your Item Menu, you can always customize your radial menu so you can access important items with a simple press of a button.

Identify Monster Weaknesses

Keep reading your Hunter's Notes.

Going for a hunt without preparation is not a great idea. An experienced hunter is always prepared to bring out a weapon with the monster’s weakness in it. Out to get Omega Planetes for the 15th try? Bring a weapon with a Thunder Element. Hate the Guardian Odogaron so much? Bring a Water Element so it can feel every weight of your hits, making the hunt quicker and easier.

Bringing a weapon against a monster that’s not weak against it only increases its difficulty, making the battle longer and your damage somewhat trivial. So make sure you need to craft multiple Elemental variations from the weapon of your choice to maximize your offensive power and make hunts a little less difficult.

Use the Environment to Your Advantage

Paratoad my beloved.

One of the things inexperienced hunters often do in hunts is to ignore the environment around them. Monster Hunter Wilds’ biomes are weapons as well. From a simple pull of a leaking dam, to a rock formation primed to hit a monster’s head, these environmental hazards are a guaranteed way to slay a monster quickly. It deals immense damage and it can stagger a monster for 5-10 seconds, making it the perfect time to dish out the best combos.

Knowing Endemic Life is also important. Creatures like the Paratoad and Vespoids could be your chance at life and death. These require absolute timing, so knowing where they spawn and what they bring on the table is essential. So make sure to read up on the Endemic life of each biome in your Hunter’s Journal.

Know Your Build

My first Monster Hunter Wilds Hammer Build.

Once you’ve gotten past the credits after slaying Zoh Shia and Gore Magala, now’s the time to make your own build. Buildcrafting is Monster Hunter’s biggest strength, which is why we’re always on that never-ending grind to get valuable materials from their dead carcasses and make armor and weapons out of it.

There are various content creators that you should follow depending on the weapon of your choice. Creators like AngBata 11 have an impressive catalog of Bowgun builds, whereas Peppo loves to show off his broken Longsword builds. Of the game’s 14 different weapons, there’s always someone to follow, and they have good suggestions on which armor, weapons and skills are the meta.

And that’s about it. These advanced tips should be enough to get you a head-start to the game’s brutal endgame and before you know it, you might be ready to take down 9-Star Monsters like Omega Planetes and Seregios.
