Gogmazios is finally here! Monster Hunter Wilds’ first Elder Dragon threat arrives in the Forbidden Lands, and everyone is already hunting it for some sweet, sweet loot.
If you’re struggling with this hunt, here are essential tips on how to survive and deal maximum damage to this tar-covered monster.
Master Gogmazios’ Two States: Liquid vs. Gaseous
Gogmazios is not a simple fight. It is an Elder Dragon for a reason, and it would take a lot of preparation to do it. You have to pay attention to its two states: Gaseous and Liquid.
The Liquid state is where Gog keeps spewing out tar-covered liquids from its body. The easiest way to tell that Gog is in the Liquid state is when its body is coated in tar and oil, but nothing is actively burning. Use Fire Element weapons in the Liquid state to soften Gogmazios’ oil-covered body and deal extra damage.
The Gaseous state is where Gog becomes more dangerous. You can tell Gog is in the Gaseous state when everything is literally burning. This is essentially its final form as it dishes out deadly laser beams filled with exploding oil on the ground. Use your Dragon Element weapon to deal significant damage to its body and weaken its supernova attack.
Use the Environment
Like every massive hunt in Monster Hunter history, using the environment to your advantage is a must.
In the first phase of the Gog siege, you need to pay attention to ‘Deteriorated Scrap Metal’ on the ceiling pipes. You can pull it down when Gog is underneath it, dealing major damage and staggering him.
When the Abyssal Lava envelops the field, the second phase of the Gog fight begins. This is the part where you break the massive Railgun stuck on its body. Use the three Hunk of Blastcoals to deal free damage to Gog. Alternatively, you could also use the Dragonator-like lever when it gets close.
The third phase is where things get interesting. Gog is constantly flying and spraying laser beams and fire around the area. This is the time to use Anti-Wyvern guns. Simply aim your slinger and shoot at Gog’s weak spots. This will deal massive Dragon damage to it and will weaken its supernova attack.
When no Anti-Wyvern guns are around, you can use either of the two pillars crumbling on the field. Pulling it down when Gog is nearby will take the Elder Dragon down, and it’s time for the entire squad to attack.
Pay Attention to NPC Voicelines
If you are having a tough time surviving Gog’s one-hit nova attack, just listen to the NPC voicelines. This helps you know when the supernova attack is about to happen, so you can defend appropriately.
If you are doing a great job, Olivia will let you know that you successfully weakened Gog’s powers, so all you need to do is survive and stay behind Fabius’ shield or use your own weapon to block the damage. After that, it’s rinse and repeat until Gogmazios is slain.
Gogmazios is a formidable challenge, but only if you don’t understand how its battle works. Understanding its two states and paying attention to NPC cues will give you the upper hand.
