  • Quick Answer: GTA 6's single-player will not feature microtransactions, though Rockstar has avoided commenting on whether monetization will return in the upcoming GTA Online.

It's not uncommon to hear that a game features microtransactions.

Oftentimes, they come in the form of cosmetics and skins. Sometimes, it can be to get you a boost in the game by providing in-game currency. It's common practice, and a lot of gamers have become "whales" (people who spend large amounts of money) because of it.

But will GTA 6 feature the same practice? Let's discuss.

Content creator Kinda Funny Games revealed that during their preview of GTA 6 at Rockstar North, studio co-head Rob Nelson assured the single-player title will not feature any monetization. They also claimed that they did not use any generative AI in the game.

However, this doesn't take into account GTA Online. Kinda Funny Games claimed that they had tried to ask about GTA Online - which features monetization in the form of Shark Cards - but Rockstar Games has refused to comment on it.

It's highly likely that while the base game of GTA 6 won't feature monetization, this will be different when GTA 6 Online comes out.

So if you're a solo player, then you won't have to worry about spending any more money aside from the initial purchase.

GTA 6 is scheduled to come out on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version hasn't been announced, meaning we will probably have to wait until after release to hear anything about the port.
