- Quick Answer: We details the extensive new wildlife, map features, and animation systems revealed for Grand Theft Auto 6.
The GTA 6 marketing machine is running at full steam, and the recent Game Informer info dump delivered a ton of exciting tidbits for fans to latch onto to make the wait for November 19 a little less painful.
We’ve already broken down everything revealed across the new screenshots and their full 14-page spread, so be sure to check that out if you haven't yet. Quite frankly, it looks almost too impressive to be real, but knowing Rockstar, it’s the one developer I would trust to actually deliver on all these ambitious promises.
Among the many things that piqued my interest is the staggering amount of wildlife we’ll be able to encounter in and around Vice City and the surrounding Leonida areas. The state it parodies, Florida, is world-famous for its massive and chaotic array of wildlife, and knowing that GTA 6 will feature its own take on landmarks like the Everglades presents an incredible opportunity to showcase just how vibrantly alive Rockstar can make an open world.
According to the developers, players will be able to encounter 170 different types of animals in GTA 6. For comparison's sake, GTA 5 featured only 28 at its peak—and when it originally launched for the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in the day (a wild sentence to write), it launched with a mere 15. The sheer leap in variety right out of the gate is staggering.

I really hope that hunting gets implemented in some capacity, too. I know it can be a touchy subject for some animal enthusiasts, but let’s face it: hunting exists in real life, and whether we like it or not, GTA has always been about holding up a mirror to real-world quirks and subcultures. Plus, it’s not like immersive hunting mechanics are foreign to open-world games—just look at Far Cry or Red Dead Redemption.
That immense density of wildlife should also help emphasize just how massive the world is, given that the map will feature six distinct major regions. It’s been decades in the making, but those of us who grew up enjoying the classic PS2 era of GTA are finally going to get to explore what lies far beyond the borders of Vice City. As mentioned, the Everglades will be represented as the Grassrivers, the Florida Keys as the Leonida Keys, and there's a whole lot more waiting to be discovered.
Both GTA 5 and San Andreas proved that Rockstar knows how to craft vast maps that make rural areas feel uniquely distinct from massive urban hubs. Knowing everything the studio has learned in the decades since then, I have no doubt each region will be jam-packed with side content to get lost in.
We already have confirmation of side activities like street and off-road racing, scuba diving, and kayaking that will definitely leverage these insanely detailed locales, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there's even more under the hood that the devs are still keeping close to the chest.

Combat is still an area I wish they’d showcase more, but a juicy bit of information from the blowout reveals it will be the most expansive in the series yet: the game features a staggering 6,000 unique NPC animations. No, that is not a typo. I am beyond excited to see how those translate into visceral, unpredictable fistfights and street encounters, adding an unprecedented level of variety to every interaction.
Thankfully, we don't have to wait much longer to see what Grand Theft Auto 6 ultimately has in store for us, as it’s officially set to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
