  • Quick Answer: VOID Interactive filed a trademark for "Warrants: A Ready or Not Story," suggesting a new narrative-focused campaign game or major story DLC expansion is in development.

I remember reviewing the console edition of Ready or Not like it was yesterday, coming away in awe and appreciation of the experience it provided. Not only was it incredibly addictive, but it also served as a harrowingly realistic reminder of the dangers law enforcement faces every single day.

In March, VOID Interactive followed up the successful console launch with the Ready or Not: Boiling Point DLC, adding three new missions alongside hundreds of bug fixes and a variety of fresh content. While it delivered a thoroughly enjoyable playthrough once again, something was different; the missions had more of a story narrative attached to them, and it finished with two secret, rather cryptic endings.

Though Ready or Not doesn’t follow a traditional linear, cinematic campaign, the Boiling Point DLC certainly felt as if it was a sign of things to come, and now, it looks like VOID Interactive could well be expanding the franchise beyond its limited tactical first-person shooter label.

Ready or Not Story-Driven Experience Seemingly Confirmed

On September 28, VOID Interactive filed a trademark for "Warrants: A Ready or Not Story" with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

While filed trademarks retain very little information, the title suggests more of a story-driven experience is in the works. Whether this would be through a brand new game or a DLC, however, remains unknown.

Instead of cutscenes and a continuous linear plot, the Ready or Not narrative is told through environmental details, mission briefings, and a series of connected SWAT operations. Although this design choice has proven to be a huge success and attracted plenty of fans along the way, there’s always been a lingering sense that Ready or Not’s campaign could reflect a deeper, more personal story for its characters and world.

Warrants: A Ready or Not Story could be VOID’s attempt to do just this, potentially opening up the Ready or Not universe through a traditional narrative and providing players with story-driven campaign missions.

What’s even more interesting is that the newly submitted trademark has been compared with the original Ready or Not filing, which is identical, perhaps suggesting that it is indeed a new game.

A current VOID Interactive job listing only increases the speculation, with an Associate Cinematic Animator responsible for "Creating high-quality character animation for in-game vignettes, cinematics, and scripted story sequences," as well as "Creating character performances that strengthen the emotion and impact of narrative sequences."

Is this advertisement linked to Warrants: A Ready or Not Story? Right now, nobody knows, but the fact that a trademark has been filed suggests we could find out more details in the not-too-distant future.

A full-on sequel or spin-off would be incredible, but considering Ready or Not only arrived on consoles a year ago, I’m leaning more towards a DLC Expansion for the time being.
