Sinking at a snail's pace makes Bubbly Basin’s underwater towns feel more like a chore.

  • Primary Subject: Pokemon Pokopia
  • Key Update: The Version 2.0 free update and Bubbly Basin DLC introduced underwater towns and the Dive ability, but players are finding the sinking physics and slow underwater movement frustratingly sluggish.

  • Quick Answer: The Dive ability unlocked in Pokemon Pokopia's Version 2.0 allows Ditto to explore underwater areas, though its movement speed feels slow and unpolished.

When Pokemon Pokopia released its latest update and the Bubbly Basin DLC, it came with a series of new Pokemon, towns, and moves.

One of these moves is Dive, which allows you to go underwater. And while it's a great addition to the game since it helps you traverse the underwater caves and find hidden treasure, I find myself hating it when I actually have to Dive.

You would expect a fun cutscene of Ditto diving into the water, adjusting to the depths, and unique animations when diving. But there's none of that. Honestly, it feels pretty sluggish.

Pokemon Pokopia's Diving Mechanic Is Boring

Exploring the new areas should feel like a dream. I mean, underwater towns - that's something people have been asking for since the game launched. And that includes me.

So imagine how disappointed I was when I discovered how painfully slow it takes to dive underwater. How we aren't immediately plunged deeper into the water when we dive. It honestly just feels like we're swimming rather than diving.

It feels like sinking at a snail's pace. Having to deal with the underwater physics is everything but cozy - it doesn't feel relaxing under your controller at all. This sucks, because Pokopia was one of those games that brought me total and utter relaxation. But diving makes me feel nothing but bad.

Sometimes I can't help but compare it to Hello Kitty Island Adventurer, a game I widely consider one of the best cozy titles. Pokopia is a close contender, but HKIA stands out for its snappy and satisfying movements. Pokopia desperately needs to apply the same philosophy.

The visual aesthetic of the Bubbly Basin DLC and the new update are great. But skills and moves shouldn't feel like a chore. I pray Game Freak and Nintendo release an update that makes diving actually feel fun instead of something I am forced to do.
