Deep within the harsh, windswept Iceshard Cliffs, a Demi Elder lurks in the shadows. Gore Magala, the juvenile form of Shagaru Magala, is the spreader of the Frenzy Virus in Monster Hunter Wilds. This extraordinary monster, bearing resemblance to a quadrupedal wyvern, shares intriguing traits with other Elder Dragons.
In this guide, we’ll show you insights into Gore Magala’s weaknesses, attack patterns, and item drops so you can defeat it with ease.
Gore Magala Weaknesses
As a Demi Elder, Gore Magala is an exceptionally powerful foe, making it a challenging beast to face early on. This majestic creature is exclusive to High-Rank content, typically encountered in the later stages of the main story. However, like all monsters in the game, Gore Magala has vulnerabilities that you can exploit to deal devastating damage.
The weapon attack types that work extremely well against this Demi Elder are slashing and bludgeoning. You can use a longsword, hammer, dual blade, or sword and shield, depending on your playstyle and skill set.
To maximize damage to Gore Magala, only use Dragon, Thunder, and Fire damage types. Here are some notable items to bring:
Fire
- Flaming Ammo
- Torch Pod
Thunder
- Thunder Ammo
- Thunder Pod
Dragon
- Dragon Ammo
- Dragon Pod
For status ailments, the beast is only prone to blastblight and exhaust. Thinking about Flash Pods or Sonic Bomb? Use Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps instead, because the first two are ineffective against Gore Magala.
The best body parts to hit during the fight are the monster’s antenna, head, and tail. Additionally, you can sever the antenna, wings, and tail of Gore Magala for maximum item drops.
Gore Magala Moveset
Gore Magala's combat dynamics have two distinct states, with the second state triggered after it takes a substantial amount of damage. In its normal state, the attack patterns are more on slashes and grappling maneuvers.
But once the Demi Elder enters a state of Frenzy, aka the "enraged" mode, it becomes faster and more aggressive. The hallmark sign of this transformation is the sudden appearance of large horns on its head. Plus, bright pinkish accents appear all over the monster’s body.
You can stop the enraged mode by knocking the monster down. However, this must be done while you’re on the ground. A successful attempt is indicated by the missing horns and pinkish accents.
Check out some of its notable attacks below:
- Roar (Special): Temporarily immobilizes you.
- Frenzy (Special): If you’re fully infected by the Frenzy Virus, you’ll take more damage.
- Wing Strike: Gore Magala will take a step forward and slam the clawed tip of its wings to the ground. This can inflict Frenzy on you and a direct hit will send you flying. Enraged hits harder and faster, and may hit with a follow-up wing attack.
- Wing Slam: Gore Magala will stand on its hind legs before crushing you with its wing arms. Enraged hits faster and with a chance to instantly kill you on impact.
- Frenzy Projectile: Gore Magala will launch a single or three projectiles of Frenzy virus to targets. The triple version is tricky because it will force you to move quickly from left to right or vice versa.
- Frenzy Slam: Gore Magala’s ultimate move and is unlocked when enraged. After a wing slam, the ground will shimmer in purple. Get away before the beast triggers it with a wing attack.
