  • Quick Answer: This article covers a new fan-made mod for Marvel Tokon that makes the character 'The Promoter' playable, detailing her current state and potential.

Marvel Tokon has a four-DLC-per-year plan, with Phoenix Cyclops set to arrive later this year as the first additions. However, talented modders have already added a brand-new character: The Promoter.

Tokon features a story mode, broken down into separate comic-book-style narratives covering all five teams. While each has unique interactions, they share cutscenes and gameplay similarities, one of them being a boss fight against The Promoter—the Champion’s herald, who is tasked with finding suitable opponents for his amusement.

The Champion is the final unlockable character you get by completing one of the episodes, with many fans disappointed The Promoter wasn’t one as well. That didn’t stop modder RCBurrito from managing to get a working, playable model of The Promoter. She’s far from a finished product, but with the amount of moves already at her disposal, it looks like she could become actual official DLC later down the line. Considering the game only has 21 playable characters, she's solely missed.

Content creator Shoyoumomo showcased a bit of the combo potential The Promoter has in her current, unofficial state as a modded character, explaining that she lacks quite a few features—such as having no Unique button, being unable to use quarter-circle or Level 3 supers, and Tokon Assemble or assists crashing the game on occasion. In short, she’s a mod that’s virtually unplayable even in offline modes, but she is fun to mess around with in training mode.

Arc System Works is hard at work trying to fix major issues Tokon has, including a terrible PC port, which as of recent patches has been performing in a much more stable manner. Still, many believe it might be too little, too late, and sales momentum could have been ruined already.

As for The Promoter, I won’t deny I’ll be a little disappointed if she takes one of the DLC spots in Season 1, as I believe she’d be much more suited to fill the role of a surprise unlockable character. After all, the roster, as good as it might be, is still rather small for a tag game, with many fan-favorites still waiting their turn to join the fray.
