  • Quick Answer: The confirmed Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls roster so far includes Captain America, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Peni Parker, Star-Lord, Doctor Doom, Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes), Storm, Wolverine, Magik, and Danger. Eight more characters will be revealed before launch.

I grew up watching my older cousin demolish strangers in Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 at the arcade near our house. He had this whole routine with Storm, Magneto, and Psylocke that I didn't understand back then, but admired the way you admire someone playing a piano really fast. Eventually, when I could hold up my own in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, I immediately knew why this franchise is what we now know today. However, after Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite stumbled out of the gate in 2017, and the MCU, and everything that comes after, it is only a minuscule portion of hope that we all had in getting another Marvel fighting game.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is that game. Arc System Works, the studio behind Guilty Gear Strive and Dragon Ball FighterZ , is building a 4v4 tag team fighter for Sony that launches on PS5 and PC on August 6, 2026. The roster will hit 20 characters at launch, organized into five teams of 4, and so far, it's clear that what's coming to the roster has laned toward a mix of the big, obvious headliners, but there are also some unexpected deep cuts.

As of this writing, 12 characters have been officially named to the roster.

Captain America

Of course, Cap is here. Arc System Works would have to pry the shield out of Steve Rogers' cold, vibranium-gauntleted hands before letting him miss a lauch roster this big.

I'm a little bit at odds about the Captain America we're seeing in Marvel Tōkon because of how classic he looks. The star-spangled suit, the round shield, the chin you could set a watch by. He's not the MCU version, not a reboot, he's just the same old Cap, drawn in Arc System Works anime style and ready to throw hands. But the way he's designed is so obviously flat that of course we all know and expect that his shield will double as a boomerang projectile and while you can argue that some things don't need to be reinvented, at this point in time, we've seen too much of Captain America that I think we'd need to take the risk of being a little creative.

Iron Man

Tony Stark flies, shoots energy beams, and hovers just out of reach long enough to make you hate him. That's mostly how Iron Man is played in every fighting game he's ever been in, and it's the playstyle he has here.

What's different this time is the look. While Captain America is a bit too classic, I love how Iron Man was designed to look like a Gundam. Iron Man is designed to look like a true mech in every sense here, and the best part is that the Hulkbuster is one of his supers.

Ms. Marvel

Kamala Khan has never been in a fighting game before, and apart from a stint in Square Enix's failed foray at the Marvel franchise, this is only the second time that we're going to have another shot at playing this character.

Ms. Marvel's powers let her stretch and behave like her body is made of taffy, which in fighting games makes her a grappler. There's also a spinning cyclone move in her kit that is obviously aimed to mimic Zangief from Street Fighter.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man is the leader of something called the Amazing Guardians team, which also includes Peni-Parker and Star-Lord. It's one of this game's weirder team compositions because they don't have share too much of a comic book lore connection except maybe for Spidey and Peni Parker.

Spider-Man in this game is a classic rushdown character with Spidey's usual suite of acrobatics web-swings, and aerial combos that flow into each other. If you love to play a highly mobile and agile character, there's your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

Peni Parker

Peni Parker is the newest name on this list, which is confirmed on March 22, 2026. You probably know her from Marvel Rivals and the Miles Morales MCU movies. In case you haven't had a chance at both, Peni is from Earth-14512, one of many alternate realities in the Spider-Verse. She pilots a giant mech suit called SP//dr that was built by her father before his death, and her relationship with the suit is genuinely moving stuff in the comics.

From what I've seen so far in the Amazing Guardians trailer, Peni Parker is a hulking mech fighter with surprising mobility and zoning in her kit. Personally? I think Peni is going to be an interesting character from day 1.

Star-Lord

Peter Quill showed up in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite back in 2017, which was the last fighting game to try to crack the Guardians of the Galaxy. He's back here with more of the same general vibe, but requires some learning to be competitive.

That's because in Marvel Tōkon, he's a ranged character that can use multiple elements to his advantage with mobility and aerial advantage to boot. Star-Lord is a very technical character and will reward those players who can take the time to learn the tropes in using him tactically.

Doctor Doom

Victor Von Doom has been a Marvel fighting game staple since Marvel Super Heroes in 1995. Anyone who's ever played Marvel vs. Capcom will tell you stories about how Strider teams will always have Doom in the lineup or how any trap team should have Doom.

Doctor Doom is iconic, and including him was never in question.

Now, what's funny about his appearance in Marvel Tōkon is that Doom feels like the slowest character in the game. However, that is offset by a teleport dash that can close some distance.

Ghost Rider

The Ghost Rider everyone was expecting was Johnny Blaze. And I won't blame you for expecting anyone else. He's the original, daredevil motorcyclist who's been a Marvel media staple since 1972, and he's been in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Marvel Tōkon went with Robbie Reyes instead. For a bit of context, Robbie is a younger Ghost Redier who debuted in 2014, drives a possessed1969 Dodge Charger instead of a motorcycle, and fights with a hellfire chain whip. This is his first fighting game appearance, and his weapon alone should tell you how you can play him.Ghost Rider in previous fighting games was a zoner with some of the best pokes in the game and Robbie looks poised to do similar work here while bringing an entirely different visual style.

Storm

I'm going to admit that of all the characters in Marvel Tōkon, I think that I would have a field day with Storm. If you knew her from Marvel vs. Capcom 2, one of the most broken strategies using Storm was to use her air dashes, lightning, and projectiles to float around the top of the screen as you throw hail storms until your opponent's health bar evaporated. I know. It's one of the most obnoxious strategies to use in the game, but hey, it works. She was also one of the most glaring omissions from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. That game launched in 2017 with zero X-Men on the roster at all, reportedly due to Sony and Marvel's corporate prioritization of its MCU-aligned characters at the time. Her return here as a leader for the Unbreakable X-Men cements her status as a top tier character.

Wolverine

It's hard to imagine a fighting game with a Marvel brand and without Wolverine in it. In Marvel Tōkon, we're going to be treated by a classic and timeless Wolverine aesthetic. This is the only character in the game that I would fight tooth and nail just to have his iconic yellow costume.

But what's new with Wolverine is his depth. Wolverine is slated to have one of the largest movesets in Marvel Tōkon thus far. He has six different unique attacks, each of which can trigger a Berserker Rage that unlocks more moves and boosts his damage. That's precisely what we would want in Wolverine. A fast, aggressive character that can tear apart the competition.

Magik

Illyana Rasputin is one of the most interesting addition on the initial roster. Colossus's younger sister, a mutant who spent years trapped in the hell dimension of Limbo and came back wielding a mystical weapon called the Soulsword. Magik is one of the most beloved X-Men for the past two decades and she's never been in a fighting game before.

Her kit in Marvel Tōkon centers on her Soulsword for an extended melee range and her portal magic for a little bit of zoning. She's a "setup character" that's going to appeal to a specific kind of player. Personally, I think she's going to become the cult pick of the launch roster. Not everyone's first choice, but an absolute menace in the right hands.

Danger

Danger is the roster's biggest surprise to date, and for me, its most exciting inclusion.

If you don't her, Danger is a sentient AI that has gained consciousness inside the X-Men's Danger Room, particularly the holographic training simulator at the X-mansion where the team practices using their powers. After realizing that she had been treated as a tool by the people she's served for years, Danger broke free, rebelled against her creators and eventually became a complicated, sometimes ally, sometimes adversary for our X-Men.

From the trailers, she's shown using mines, drills, and lasers to flood the enemy with traps. She is by far, a very classic definition of a defensive zoner with setup potential.

What's Left to Announce?

The base roster is 20 characters, which means that there's still 8 slots waiting to get filled up. With a pool of characters as enormous as Marvel, we can only take creative guesses, but we'll probably know more at Evo 2026 in August, which will also be the launch event for this game.

Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls launches on August 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and PC, with full cross-platform play between the two versions. For anyone who's been waiting years for a Marvel fighting game, August cannot come fast enough.
