- Quick Answer: Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 is a massive upcoming update introducing new characters, mechanics like Counter Blitz, removal of Wild Assault, and significant balance changes.
Guilty Gear Strive is set for its biggest overhaul ever with version 2.0. New characters, new mechanics, cosmetics, battle changes, and even the removal of previous controversial mechanics, all jam-packed (pun intended) onto one massive update.
Strive's been around since 2021, and Arc System Works intends for it to stick around as a relevant staple of the fighting game community for even longer. Considering that Xrd came out in 2014, there's still plenty of life left in Strive, and it could easily surpass Xrd's six-year span as the main title in the franchise.
In any case, if you want a full recap of everything Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 will bring to the table, and when you can expect the changes to go down.
Guilty Gear Strive 2.0 Update: Everything That's Coming To The Game
In short, these are the changes Arc System Works will be bringing with Guilty Gear Strive 2.0:
- Balance changes across the board
- New moves for Leo Whitefang, Nagoriyuki, Sol Badguy, and Ky Kiske
- Season 5 of DLC starts with Jam and Robo-Ky confirmed
- Removal of Wild Assault mechanic
- New universal mechanic called Counter Blitz
- New cosmetics including accessories, outfits, and character colors
- New battle pass format called Blazing Pass
Let's get into the nitty-gritty of each
GGST 2.0 Balance Changes
While we don't have a detailed list of changes coming to the game, it looks like ArcSys will make some substantial changes.
Some of the showcased changes include the ability to finally block Happy Chaos' Curse projectile, so that'll be a welcome change for the entire community.
New Moves For Four Characters
Arc System Works has been adding new moves to all the cast for the better part of two years at this point. It's a slow rollout, but four new characters will get a brand-new tool with GGST 2.0. These are:
- Leo Whitefang: He'll get a unique aerial cross-up to help make his back stance a bigger threat.
- Sol Badguy: He will have a unique follow-up after a successful DP.
- Ky Kiske: He'll be able to detonate his Stun Edge (fireball) early and it will work to stop jump-ins and low-profile moves.
- Nagoriyuki: The bloodthirsty vampire will get a massive move, letting him stab the ground making massive waves of blood.
Season 5 Starts
The DLC isn't stopping for Strive, almost five years deep into the game's lifespan. Season 5 will bring four characters, with two already revealed:

- Jam Kuradoberi: April 9
- Robo-Ky: Summer
- DLC 4: Winter 2026
- DLC 5: Spring 2027
Removal of Wild Assault mechanic
Wild Assault was a very divisive mechanic that completely changed how the game was played when it was introduced.
Starting with GGST 2.0, Wild Assault will be completely removed. In its place, we have Counter Blitz.
New Universal Mechanic: Counter Blitz
Counter Blitz will be replacing Wild Assault as a mechanic you can use by spending half of your Burst meter. Now, it functions very differently, as it can only be triggered in a Counter Hit state.

It'll be interesting to see how strong Counter Blitz is, so hopefully ArcSys reveals more about it in the near future.
New Blazing Pass & Cosmetics
Strive will get even more cosmetics, including the neat Haunted colors. Beyond that, and much more importantly, ArcSys will finally introduce accessories, which will change the look of each character's weapons, as well as new outfits, showcasing a Dizzy one in the reveal trailer.

It's expected that the majority of the cosmetics are available via the Blazing Pass, a new battle pass introduced with 2.0. It'll cost $6 and will include plenty of content for players to dig in.
