This article contains SPOILERS for Resident Evil Requiem
In Resident Evil Requiem, the Chunk becomes one of the most stressful enemies during Grace’s section in the East Wing of the Rhodes Hill Care Center.
You first encounter it in a scripted chase sequence near the corridor connecting the Lead Researcher’s Office and the Conference Room, where your only option is to run.
However, later in the East Wing, especially near the Examination Room, Blood Lab, Treatment Room, and Waiting Room, the Chunk starts roaming freely.
At this stage, you can either avoid it entirely or permanently eliminate it, which is highly recommended if you want safer exploration and a valuable reward.
Where Do You Encounter the Chunk?
The most consistent way to take down the Chunk is with Hemolytic Injectors, but you’ll need to unlock the recipe first by analyzing the specimen next to the Laser Microscope in the Blood Lab.

Once unlocked, each Hemolytic Injector requires 60 Infected Blood and 1 Scrap to craft. Since the Chunk requires three injections to die, you’ll need enough materials for all three.
Infected Blood is fairly common and marked on the map, and you can gather more by killing regular enemies. Scrap can be found scattered throughout the East and West Wings, and if you’re short, you can dismantle nearly broken knives for extra materials.
There’s also additional Scrap inside a drawer behind the reception desk in the East Wing Waiting Room, which can help if you’re farming supplies before committing to the kill.
What Is the Safest Way to Kill the Chunk?
Once you’re ready, your positioning matters most since the Chunk can’t enter the Examination Room or the Waiting Room, which makes them the safest places to regroup.

Hide inside one of these rooms and wait for the Chunk to walk past the doorway.
Wait for it to turn away and walk down the corridor, then quietly move in from behind and administer the Hemolytic Injector.
After the injection, immediately retreat back into the safe room and allow its patrol pattern to reset. Repeat this process two more times.
After the third successful injection, the Chunk will finally collapse and die. It’s a calculated and safe tactic that helps you save precious ammunition.
Can You Kill the Chunk with Guns Instead?
Alternatively, you can kill the Chunk using firearms, though this approach is significantly more resource-intensive.

Standard pistol fire works but consumes a large amount of ammo, which may not be sustainable depending on your inventory.
A more efficient firearm option is the Requiem, Leon’s powerful handgun that Grace can access. After obtaining the Level 1 ID Wristband, you can unlock the Security Point in the East Wing Waiting Room to gain access to Requiem ammo crafting.
This requires Rare Metal, which is found in locked drawers and containers throughout the area. If you choose this route, aim strictly for headshots, as body shots are inefficient.
The Requiem can bring the Chunk down relatively quickly with well-placed shots, but missing wastes extremely scarce ammunition.
For this reason, many players only use the Requiem as a finisher after landing one injector, or avoid using it entirely to preserve resources.
What Happens If You Don’t Kill the Chunk?
It’s important to defeat the Chunk before progressing past the Isolation Ward, as once you switch back to Leon, the enemy disappears permanently and you lose the opportunity to claim its reward.

When defeated, the Chunk drops the Eye Spy Charm, which boosts Grace’s chances of surviving what would normally be fatal damage, making it especially valuable in tougher encounters where resources are limited and mistakes are costly.
Overall, while it’s technically possible to ignore the Chunk and sneak around it, eliminating it early makes navigating the East Wing dramatically less stressful.
The safest and most efficient approach is crafting three Hemolytic Injectors, using the Waiting Room or Examination Room as bait points, and patiently repeating the injection strategy until it falls.
It requires some setup, but once it’s dealt with, the entire section becomes much easier to handle.
