With what it had to put up with, Halo 3 is the most deserving of a remake after Campaign: Evolved.

  • Quick Answer: Fans are pushing for a Halo 3 remake next because it never received a dedicated anniversary remaster and introduced fan-favorite features like Forge mode.

If you're a fan of Halo, then you are likely excited to play Halo: Campaign Evolved. That doesn't come as too much of a surprise, given that the game is a beautifully crafted remake of the first entry in the series, which is already a masterpiece in its own right.

If it does well and many people love it, there is a good chance that we'll get to see even more Halo games remade, which is something I hope will come true. If it does, then the most likely case is that the second entry in the series will get a rework.

This makes sense, given that it would only be right to follow up a remake of the first entry with its sequel. However, as a longtime fan of Halo, I believe that the better course of action would be remaking Halo 3 instead.

Some may question this, given that skipping a rework for the second game and going straight to the third wouldn't make much sense. However, I have a few good points as to why it should be done, and the first one is that the third entry in the series has not received any special treatment.

Both the first and second Halo games were remastered to commemorate the love fans have for them and their importance to the series. It's not surprising that the two received what they did, given their popularity and continued relevancy.

However, Halo 3, on the other hand, has not received anything. The game was released in 2007, and with all the improvements it made over the first and second games, it helped put the Xbox 360 on the map as a console to be desired. Given its achievements and the amount of praise received, many would have thought that it would have joined its predecessors in getting a remaster, especially when it was made available for the Master Chief Collection.

However, it never did, even after 19 years since its debut. It has come to a point that the first game is getting a remake, and there's still no confirmation of it getting even a simple remaster. Essentially, it feels like it was left in the dust willingly and thrown into obscurity, which has left many fans both confused and unhappy.

To fix that issue, the one thing that needs to be done is to give Halo 3 the long-awaited treatment that it deserves. It may lead to some questions, but I believe it would be the right thing to do, as the third entry in the series would be one of the more fascinating things to rework, given what it has to work with.

And that brings me to the next reason why I think Halo 3 should be prioritized for a rework treatment. The game introduced so many new things for players to enjoy that people couldn't believe how much content they were receiving.

Aside from new gameplay features like the deployable equipment that really changed interactions in combat, there were other additions like Forge mode, where you can create custom maps, and Theater mode, where you can record matches and view what took place from every angle.

Such things made Halo 3 a huge step up from the second and especially the third entry, and that alone should have been reason enough to earn a remake or even a remaster. Although it didn't happen, the opportunity is now available with Halo: Campaign Evolved's existence, and with it comes the possibilities of something better.

If the third game did get a remake, you can only imagine what kind of improvements could be done with its different features. Forge mode could be altered to make it that much easier to develop new maps, and perhaps even have little to no limitations on what people can build. If not that, then perhaps there will be even more deployable equipment that will synergize well with the current ones, making for more exciting moments during the fight against the Covenant.

There's no doubt that such changes would lead to an experience that no other entry in the series can offer, which is why Halo 3 should be prioritized for a remake. If that isn't enough convincing, then consider that the third game also provided one of the best multiplayer experiences in the entire series, so if it were to be remade into something better, then one can only think of how much there will be if it ever happens.

Again, the likely case of what happens after Halo: Campaign Evolved is that Halo 2 will receive the remake treatment next. While that seems inevitable, there is still hope that the third game gets it first, which is something I hope for, given what it has done and the potential it has to create an unforgettable experience.
