Fans are pretty pumped to see GameCube NSO on Switch 2, even if it shouldn’t be exclusive to the new system. Regardless of personal thoughts, fans are enjoying the move and hope it means more classic systems are coming to the service. That might be the case, as new Metroid trademarks have fans buzzing about possibilities.
Nintendo has renewed the trademarks for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Metroid Prime Hunters. On paper, this is nothing new since companies renew trademarks all the time to ensure no one else uses these names. However, with NSO playing a huge part on Switch 2, this could mean more systems for the subscription service.
Adding new systems to Switch 2 NSO is inevitable since Nintendo will need to keep adding games to make the service more enticing. GameCube has done that pretty well thus far, with many fans excited to play Soulcalibur 2 with Link again. We imagine that Wii and DS games would be perfect additions to the service after GameCube.
Having Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii NSO would be bittersweet for many reasons. Fans were hoping to get remasters or standard re-releases for the second and third Prime games, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. While Nintendo could always surprise us, Wii NSO is a big selling point, and having a Metroid game in there would get people talking.
Metroid Prime Hunters on a potential DS NSO raises the bar quite a bit. This was a pretty standout DS game for its time, so adding that to Switch 2 with potential online multiplayer is newsworthy. Plus, having DS games on NSO would be great, as there are plenty of stellar titles in that system.
Only time will tell if this actually leads to anything newsworthy for Switch 2 NSO, maybe even regular Switch NSO. The last time Nintendo released DS games digitally was on their failed Wii U console. If they’re going to bring this feature back, it might as well be for a best-selling system.
