The Nintendo Switch Online experience will get better with Switch 2. During the recent Switch 2 Direct, the company revealed that GameCube games are coming to the service.

Some of the launch titles include The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur II, the beloved Bandai Namco 3D fighter that included Link as a playable character.

Now that guest characters are all the craze in fighting games, it's good to remember that Soulcalibur was one of the first that did it. When SCII launched originally back in 2002, the Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo GameCube had different guest characters. Spawn, Heihachi from Tekken, and the iconic Link were the three chosen.

While Soulcalibur II has been ported to several other consoles, the game was incomplete. Sure, Spawn was now playable on PlayStation and Heihachi Mishina could electric Xbox users, but Link was unsurprisingly absent.

The revival of SCII and the return of it with Link as a playable guest once again is an amazing win for game preservation. Finding a copy of Soulcalibur II that features the Hyrule hero is a rare sight, and it finally being widely available via the NSO service is the perfect way to spark interest in the franchise.

Maybe Bandai Namco is cooking something else in the near future? Only time will tell.
