Most people who’ve seen the Deadpool VR game probably think it’s a harmless game at worst and a potentially good time at best. However, don’t ask fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong about the VR Marvel game, as they are furious. This is because the Summer Game Fest trolled these fans, perhaps too well, and now they’re angry.
Had this been any other game, most fans would think it was a harmless jab and move on. Sadly, this wasn’t any other game, so it looks like gamers who might enjoy Deadpool VR better not talk to these Silksong fans about it.
Why Are Hollow Knight: Silksong Fans Mad at Deadpool VR?
During the first night of Summer Game Fest, a skit joked about “skipping the Silksong trailer” for Deadpool VR. Fans of the long-awaited indie sequel took that personally.
Fans have been waiting literal years to play Hollow Knight: Silksong, so joking about skipping the game’s “new” trailer has annoyed them. There probably wasn’t going to be a trailer, unless that’s being saved for the second day, but being reminded of that delay has angered fans.
What didn’t help with the joke was that it was to set up the appearance of Deadpool VR. Had this been a regular current game starring the Marvel anti-hero, fans would have been annoyed but could eventually let it go. Unfortunately, VR is very niche and expensive, so most gamers see these titles in a negative light.
What’s Going on with Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Simply put, this Metroidvania sequel was announced too early.
Most of the frustration gamers have over Silksong is the lack of consistent updates from Team Cherry. A few trailers here and there have been released, but none of them have confirmed Silksong’s release date or release window.
This goes to show how revered the original Hollow Knight is. While it wasn’t a groundbreaking game, the fact that a Metroidvania could look and play so well made the genre feel fresh again. Fans still enjoy the combat mechanics and challenging platforming sequences of that game to this day, so it’s easy to see why they want that sequel.
If Hollow Knight: Silksong does get announced soon, this controversy should go away. The joke was mostly harmless, but we can see why fans hate this Deadpool VR game now.
