- Quick Answer: Persona 4 Revival updates classic turn-based combat with modern systems like Baton Pass, the multi-target Send Flying mechanic, and powerful zero-cost Prime Time abilities.
During Atlus's Persona 4 Revival broadcast on June 18, new gameplay for the remake was showcased.
The broadcast revealed that combat gameplay is receiving a major upgrade. Not only is the Baton Pass being added, but other mechanics that haven't featured in previous remakes are being included in Persona 4 Revival.
With the upgraded combat, I'm confident this game will be the best Persona remake to date.
Why the Upgraded Combat Secures Persona 4 Revival's Spot as the Best Remake
Besides adding the Baton Pass, which was featured in other remakes like Persona 5 Royal, Revival will feature Send Flying.
Send Flying allows players to launch status-afflicted enemies into other enemies, causing them to also be affected by the ailment. Instead of waiting for the enemy to be taken down or to die from their ailments, being able to actually USE the enemy to spread ailments in huge numbers is a genuine game-changer.

In past Persona installments, status-ailment-inducing skills have been neglected, and I'm glad to see this is changing with Persona 4 Revival.
There's also a mechanic called Prime Time, which builds up over time. After activating Prime Time, attacks will cost zero SP, and you'll be able to ignore enemy resistances. Once you enter Prime Time Finish, the party will launch a cut-scene attack, dealing a ton of damage - similar to the All-Out Attacks from Persona 5 Royal.

Honestly, adding a buffed-up state where you'll be able to attack with no additional cost will make gameplay feel even more enjoyable.

Atlus has yet to reveal everything new about Persona 4 Revival, but just the gameplay has me convinced that it's going to be the best Persona remake to date. The combat is now more intuitive, rewarding, and makes you actually want to crawl the dungeon part of the game.
Persona 4 Revival is set to come out on February 18, 2027, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
