When Nodus Fall was announced during this year's Gamescom, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that HoYoverse was creating a new game - and it's unlike any they've produced before.

Nodus Fall is an upcoming cooperative dark fantasy action RPG developed by the same people who made Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, but you wouldn't know just by looking at it. Featuring realistic graphics and Soulslike combat that I would have never expected, Nodus Fall has me hyped.

I just hope it's not a gacha...

Nodus Fall Looks Good, Please Don't Be a Gacha!

Out of all the announcements and trailers shown at Gamescom, Nodus Fall is the one that grabbed my attention. I was shocked at how HoYoverse was moving away from their established mold. They're known for games with a sprawling, anime-style open world, so Nodus Fall being a Soulslike was a total curveball - and I'm embracing it.

I love games where the combat has a fun challenge, because that means every victory feels earned. I am deeply curious to see how HoYoverse will pull off a game with atmospheric storytelling, flashy swordplay, and bosses that are both horrifying and difficult. It's totally new, and I'm excited to play through the new challenges.

The one thing I am worried about, however, is the gacha aspect. I am hoping and praying that Nodus Fall isn't a gacha game. For a Soulslike, I want HoYoverse to focus on narrative depth, the atmosphere of the world, and the satisfaction of leveling up. I don't want to rely on pulling for the best characters to get the best team.

If Nodus Fall wants to stand out among similar games, it needs to let the story and world-building take center stage.

Of course, if Nodus Fall does this, that means it likely won't be free. And that's fine. If the game is actually that good, I'm sure players won't mind paying triple-A prices; they just have to do it right.
