Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls players have been suffering the wrath of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man during these initial weeks to a degree that many are already asking for nerfs. What’s interesting is that Arc System Works may be listening.
Tokon sadly shipped with a few issues, with more popping up after release. In general, matchmaking is finicky, and PC performance has been universally panned. Other annoying bugs include replays not functioning properly or the registered teams option wiping your saved rosters every time you boot up the game. Luckily, Arc Sys plans to fix all of these in an upcoming patch set to release next week, the studio revealed on August 19.
Beyond that, the announcement had an interesting bullet point: battle fixes and gameplay adjustments. Now, fans asking for buffs and nerfs this early is one thing—but is Arc Sys actually going to pull the trigger on character balance changes less than a month into the game’s release?
Obviously, we as a community don’t really know what gameplay adjustments mean, but it’s safe to say that the wording heavily implies direct changes not related to bugs, as that’s clearly specified as a separate issue.
I don’t think buffing or nerfing characters this early is a good idea, as I’d much prefer the game to be explored by the community, even if the consensus already seems to be that heroes like Spider-Man, Storm, Black Panther, or Magik are already seeing much more playtime than the rest of the cast.
That said, system mechanics such as Crossover seem rather undercooked, which is something I mentioned in my review. Whatever the case may be, I’m excited to see what Arc Sys can come up with to spice up the Marvel Tokon experience this early. At the very least, we know they’re listening to community feedback, and that’s always a positive.
