Marvel Rivals may be free-to-play, but with NetEase making most of their money on skins, it was only expected they would reveal some new costumes every few weeks.
The newest batch drops by the end of the week and they give new skins for the Cloak and Dagger duo as well as Venom.
Lingering Imprint and Twilight Duo
As officially revealed on the Marvel Rivals socials, Venom will be getting a Lingering Imprint skin, and Cloak and Dagger will be getting skins called Twilight Duo. Check them out below:
Just in case the quotes in the captions are confusing, the ‘Brock’ and the ‘Thompson’ talking in the dialogue are Eddie Brock and Flash Thompson. In the comics, Flash Thompson (a.k.a. Peter Parker’s bully) also gets touched by the symbiote and becomes Agent Venom—essentially a black-suit Spider-Man that uses guns.
It’s not clear if this Venom is going to have a bunch of different voice lines to show that there’s a different host underneath the suit, but it is odd that NetEase would hold back on the MVP reveal. Speaking of which, here’s the MVP look for Cloak and Dagger’s Twilight Duo skin:
It doesn’t look to be inspired by anything in the comics, but with the special themed skins that Marvel Rivals has been releasing, it looks like this one is mobster-themed—just with less blood and swearing that’s usually related to mobsters.
No price has been announced for each of the skins, but fans speculate they could be worth 1,400 units each. If the Venom skin comes with a Flash Thompson voice though, it’s possible it could be more expensive, but this is just speculation at this point.
Season 1 Trudges On
With the release of The Thing and The Human Torch, it looks like Season 1 of Marvel Rivals is already halfway through. Besides the reveal of the new skins, a new game mode has also been added called Clone Rumble which will allow players to have teams comprised of just one character—completely throwing balance out the window.
Maybe there could be some more cosmetics added in the next few weeks, but after March, it looks like the first season will be ready to wind down and launch anew with Season 2.
What to Expect with Season 2
With Season 1 expected to end this April, a lot of fans are already wondering what could be in store for the second season. If rumors are to be believed, it’s possible that Season 2 could focus heavily on the arrival of mutants, and it’s said that there is already a map in the works based on the X-Mansion.
As for incoming characters, leaks have already come out for Blade and Ultron, but rumors have also suggested that more X-Men could be released including Jean Grey, Deadpool, Emma Frost, Colossus, and Cyclops.
There’s even a rumor that a playable Professor X could be coming, but so far nothing more about that has been confirmed.
The new skins for Cloak, Dagger, and Venom come out on March 6. Marvel Rivals is now playable on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
