Rumors had been flying around that Marvel Rivals was cooking up a new game mode, and now NetEase Games has officially revealed what could be one chaotic showdown of a mode.

Clone Rumble will let players take control of teams of only one character and try to strategize and fight against another team of clones.

Send in the Clones

While hero shooters like Overwatch only allow players to use one character each for balance purposes, NetEase is throwing that out the window to have players see just how chaotic things can get when they play only one character. Check out the official reveal for Clone Rumble:

As the trailer already suggests, players should expect things to get chaotic when teams are only comprised of one character; a team full of Namors would just fill the map with octopus turrets, and a team of Groots could just pull a Fortnite and just build an endless maze of walls.

Just imagine going up against a team of Invisible Women who would stay out of sight by not attacking anyone, or a recreation of the Across the Spider-Verse game where multiple Spider-Men are chasing you down.

If anything, it’s all in good fun, and the devs probably knew there was no point in trying to balance what was a silly premise in the first place.

It’s about Time

With Marvel Rivals having limited game modes, many fans are excited to try something new. In addition to the usual types of matches, which include Domination, Convoy, and Convergence, the other available game modes are Deathmatch, Doom Match, and Conquest variations.

If Rivals looks at Overwatch’s abundance of game modes, they could do with their Capture-the-Flag or Mystery Heroes versions. Maybe the devs can even work on some more limited game modes like they did with their own version of Lucio Ball called “Clash of Dancing Lions”.

New Black Widow Skin

Besides the reveal of the new game mode, players can also work toward a free skin called “Mrs. Barnes” for Black Widow. It’s essentially an Old West skin for Natasha Romanoff, and her sporting gear makes it look like she jumped out of a Red Dead Redemption game.

To unlock the “Mrs. Barnes” skin for Widow, players must participate in Galacta’s Cosmic Adventure event, which runs from March 7 to April 11.

It’s not explained why she’s Mrs. Barnes in this outfit, but it will likely connect to Winter Soldier as they’re both special assassins. So far, there haven’t been any Old West-themed skins for Bucky, so the devs are likely planning a “Mr. Barnes” skin to the game so Widow and Bucky can match.

Clone Rumble launches for Marvel Rivals on March 7. It is now playable on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
