With Magneto a playable character in the game, rumors were going around that his rival Professor X was also going to be playable in Marvel Rivals.
While no official reveal has been made for a playable Professor X, the map reveal for Krakoa did confirm that he exists in this universe—but he isn’t bound by a wheelchair.
Welcome to Krakoa
Besides the reveal of playable heroes Emma Frost and Ultron, Season 2 is also going to be introducing a new map in the form of the mutant haven Krakoa. There are statues all over the map featuring some key figures in mutant lore, and one of them is Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X.Check this out:
Professor X is one of four statues revealed to be all around Krakoa; the others are that of Storm, Magneto, and Emma Frost. In the animated X-Men ’97, Krakoa also had statues of mutant heroes, but they were only of Xavier and Magneto.
Could a Playable Xavier be Coming?
It has been rumoured for a while that Professor X was being developed for Marvel Rivals, and some have been wondering if he was going to be wheelchair-bound or this new version that can walk.
If this is the playable Xavier that’s coming to the game, it would make sense that he would exist in Krakoa, because in the comics, the island allows mutants to be reincarnated, and the same comic book magic allows Xavier to have a new body that actually lets him walk.
As for his helmet, it’s supposed to be a portable version of Cerebro; while its primary use was to detect mutants, it also amplifies Xavier’s powers, so it would probably make him more useful in a battlefield—that is, if he’s going to be a playable hero at all. Fans will just have to wait and see.
The Krakoa map launches when Season 2 kicks off for Marvel Rivals on April 11. Rivals is now available to play for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PS5.
