The Lies of P: Overture announcement caught many by surprise since many fans didn’t expect to see an expansion for this Soulslike. A new “narrative trailer” has now been shown, revealing that this will be a prequel tale set before the main game. It looks like this expansion is going to answer a ton of questions players have about this world.

Overture will be set in the City of Krat’s final glory days, telling fans a new story about Lea, the Legendary Stalker. Lea was previously seen in the game, albeit through lore dumps and cutscenes, so the DLC will expand her character quite a bit. This prequel adventure will reveal how Krat came to fall and set up the main game.

While knowing the backstory of Krat will be interesting, Lies of P: Overture will still appeal to fans of the game’s combat. Because this is a new adventure, there will be plenty of new weapons for Pinnochio that weren’t in the main game. Fans can also expect new enemies and bosses for the puppet to face, which should provide a challenge.

Although gameplay will be the main reason for buying this DLC expansion, fans of the lore will be rewarded in a big way. Overture will finally tell fans what led to the Puppet Frenzy massacre that’s only ever mentioned in the main game’s lore. It will also be interesting to see if the information here will help form its eventual sequel, assuming we get one.

“The narrative in Lies of P: Overture is a tale of vengeance, impending tragedy, and dark secrets that haunt those that wanted them locked away,” said Jiwon Choi, game director of ROUND8 Studio. “Our players have been eager to learn more about the events that led to the Puppet Frenzy massacre and the collapse of the City of Krat, and we look forward to delivering the truth this summer.”
