Back in 2020, nothing in Cyberpunk 2077’s launch turned heads more than Keanu Reeves stepping in as Johnny Silverhand.

His role became a pillar of the experience, mixing antagonism, wit, and occasional vulnerability into the game’s branching story.

Five years later, Reeves has made it clear he’d happily reprise that role for the sequel.

Speaking with IGN while promoting his new film Good Fortune, the actor didn’t hesitate: “Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

Reeves’ words were enough to fuel fresh speculation around Johnny’s possible comeback in Cyberpunk 2.

How Could Johnny Silverhand Fit Into the Sequel?

The challenge is that Cyberpunk 2077’s endings don’t leave Johnny’s fate on a neat path forward. Spoilers ahead.

Depending on choices, he might live on through V, disappear entirely, or remain as a digital construct.

Possible appearances include flashback moments, Braindance sequences, stored engrams, or callbacks to his days in Samurai.

Some have floated cloning or prequel-style approaches, but most doubt CDPR would bend canon just to keep him as a co-lead.

The most feasible outcome is a minor role, perhaps as a cameo mission, a concert flashback, or a stored BD.

However, the general view among fans is that the sequel should stand apart, with new legends and possibly new cities being a stronger fit going forward.

The idea holds ground since Pondsmith himself pointed to “Chicago gone wrong” as a possible setting outside Night City.

If Reeves does return, it might be more as a link to history than as a constant presence in the new story.

When Might CDPR Realistically Deliver Cyberpunk 2?

Cyberpunk 2 is still at a very early stage, with pre-production only beginning in 2025 under the codename Project Orion.

CD Projekt still has hundreds of developers tied up with The Witcher 4, which means the next Cyberpunk game is a long way off.

The timeline might not wrap until the decade ends, and Reeves’ interest comes just in time for the team to decide on his role.

Simply put, Keanu wants back in—and fans are on board.

The only question is whether CD Projekt Red can balance that desire with the need to chart a bold, independent future for Cyberpunk 2.
