It’s no secret that CD Projekt Red is working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, as the game sold well when it was bad and more when it became good. Fans hope the follow-up won’t be released in a rushed state like its predecessor, which had no business launching on PS4 and Xbox One in that shape.
Unfortunately, those hoping for a third-person perspective might have to brace for disappointment.
A job listing on LinkedIn (via the Gaming Leaks subreddit) is looking for a Senior Gameplay Animator to work on this sequel. Funnily enough, the description doesn’t even hide the fact that this is going to be a follow-up to Cyberpunk. The description for the job wants someone who can “enhance the player's immersive experience in first person view,” confirming that it will still be an FPS.
While that might be an obvious decision based on the first game, plenty of fans were hoping the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel would have third-person options. Many felt that the first game’s character creation was so robust that keeping it in first-person made all that customizing feel like a waste of time. Some fans modded in a third-person mode but it just didn’t hit the same.
Development might still be early, so there’s always a chance that things will change and we eventually get that third-person camera angle. However, if this description is anything to go by, it seems like the 2077 follow-up is still an FPS with major RPG elements. Kind of ironic how The Witcher 4 will probably be in third-person but Siri’s customization won’t be as robust.
Even if a third-person camera is off the table, fans can always hope that this Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is the stuff of legends. It’s a good thing that the original game got that overhaul and excellent Phantom Liberty expansion. Otherwise, that RPG would have gone down in history as a total waste of time.
