I'll be honest - I never played the first Until Dawn game. The first game came out in 2015, an era of my life when I was deathly afraid to play horror games. So while horror fans hold Blackwood Mountain in high regard, I don't have that same connection.

But when I saw the latest Until Dawn 2 trailer during the recent State of Play, I was immediately intrigued. The plot follows Dead True - a group of ghost hunters who fabricate paranormal content for views getting trapped on an abandoned island where they face real, horrific dangers.

The true crime detective in me had their interest piqued - and it only grew when I heard the team behind Dispatch fleshed out the story. Now, I'm willing to play Until Dawn 2 blind, without any experience with the first title.

Until Dawn 2's Story Has Me Hooked

As someone obsessed with true crime and real-world mysteries, the fact that we are following a bunch of snooty influencers on a haunted island immediately caught my attention. I've seen one too many documentaries following naive groups of people entering areas they shouldn't and facing the consequences. I've also seen videos about people getting lost on islands that have been abandoned. The fact that the game follows a similar premise had me hooked the moment I watched the trailers.

Let's be real - there's something deeply unsettling about being in total isolation. Add a creepy tropical island to the mix, and we're bound to get some good jump scares. Until Dawn 2 seems to have the recipe for the perfect suspenseful, mystery-driven story I want to dive into

But what completely sealed the deal for me was learning that the story was crafted by AdHoc Studios - also known as the minds behind Dispatch. As someone who has played Dispatch more than once, I know how masterfully they handle character tension, moral gray areas, and dynamic dialogue. They did a fantastic job with Dispatch, which makes me believe they'll do the same with Until Dawn 2.

I might have missed out on the magic of the first Until Dawn, but I am definitely going to be playing Until Dawn 2. With its unique plot and promising story, it's already at the top of my watchlist.
