- Quick Answer: The recent GTA 6 leaks have unveiled several new gameplay mechanics, including an expanded wanted system, car upkeep, and player stamina.
The Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks might be unfortunate for Rockstar, but not for those interested in finally getting to see a glimpse of gameplay from a game that’s coming out in mere months. In fact, while it may not be of the highest quality, there’s a lot to dissect from the clips shared online that have been confirmed as real following DMCA takedowns by Take-Two Interactive.
While I’m sure the upcoming Netflix gameplay reveal will go deep into all the little systems and mechanics the game boasts, we can at least now speculate based on actual footage, even if it wasn't intended for public use.
Do note I won’t be using any footage or images from the leaked gameplay in this article, but if you’re keen on looking at some, you’re free to do so.
What We Learned From The GTA 6 Leaks
Again, only a few short clips hit the timeline, but they were painstakingly dissected by fans. Among the most interesting tidbits of information we could spot were the following.
Six-Star Wanted Level
Historically, the GTA wanted level has been capped at five stars. That’s when things get particularly crazy, and you start second-guessing the decisions you made to get to that point.

In the leaked footage, eagle-eyed viewers could see that the wanted system got pushed to six stars. Wonder if Rockstar has something in store to truly shock players that warrants a seemingly small change that could have huge implications.
On that subject, it appears the AI has been refined to a point in which law enforcement can identify your vehicle and clothes, meaning that if you decide to, for instance, change your getaway car, it’ll be much easier to escape their sight.
Car Maintenance & Features
Rockstar fans are madly in love with attention to detail, as painfully boring as they may sound. This is one of those instances, as it looks like vehicles require fuel and specific maintenance to work, just like the dreaded reality we’re working so hard to escape!
Again, no one knows how intrusive this system is. If it’s a neat little detail for the sake of immersion, that’s cool; if you’re required to stop at every gas station imaginable, I’m going to have a problem.
Minigames
Minigames are nothing new for the franchise; I’d be more surprised if there weren’t any. But the integration in GTA 6 looks incredibly seamless.

In one of the leaked videos, we can see the male protagonist, Jason Duval, interact with a basketball around his home, shooting some hoops and getting a streak bonus each time he scores.
The brilliance isn't in the depth of the minigame shown, but, as I said, in how incredibly fluid the motions looked; there was no cut-to-black or prompt to let you start the minigame. On top of that, there was another interesting detail caught.
Focus Bar
There’s a focus bar! The footage doesn’t really showcase what exactly the bar does. It could help you by slowing time, letting you score more points in the specific minigame shown during the leaked clip.
What I’m wondering is where else the focus bar will show up. Is it a feature we’ll get access to during an intense action sequence that will let you enter bullet time like Max Payne? Only time will tell.
Stamina Bar
The final major tidbit of information players caught during the leaked footage is the fact that the game now features a stamina bar.
In a particular clip where the player starts beating up an NPC, a stamina bar popped up in the UI, which started depleting with each swing of a melee weapon Jason was using. It’ll likely be implemented into the RPG mechanics of the game, letting you increase it.
That said, stamina bars in general are a big turn-off for me. I’m all for realism, but it makes me wary about how far Rockstar wants to push that concept.
