There’s been a lot of talk about the Nintendo Switch 2, mostly about its impressive power and ridiculous game prices. While it can feel like Nintendo is going down a pretty bad road, their new system does bring back some innovations from past systems. For instance, GameShare is a retooled version of Download Play from the DS, which is back and can reach more people now.
An X post from Centro Leaks has confirmed that GameShare will act like Download Play for fans who play online with their friends. If a game has this feature available, fans will be able to share said game with friends who might not have it. The example image shows Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury as a great example.
Before fans get too excited about this feature, it’s worth noting how this will be for select games on Switch 2. Regarding multiplayer games, players can only play specific modes together. Still, it’s a good way to play some games without owning them, so that can’t be understated.
While games like It Takes Two offer ways to play them without fully owning the game, it’s a more convoluted process than this. The Switch 2 gives players an option to download games that is better and could be great for future multiplayer processes. Once again, it is like the DS days, but with online play, this could give the system an advantage over other consoles.
You don’t see many features like this on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, even the Steam Deck. This is going to be a great game console for multiplayer, which is what Nintendo has specialized in for a while. It still doesn’t justify the expensive price of some games, but some families won’t mind.
