The Switch 2 is going to be a lot bigger than its predecessor, but fans hoping they would have an OLED model at launch are going to be disappointed. It’s still going to have a lovely LCD screen and won’t make much of a difference to hardcore games, but those who are a stickler for colors are going to be disappointed.

Most fans were expecting this new handheld console to launch with an LCD screen since they knew Nintendo could release another model later that had an OLED screen. It happened with its predecessor and proved to be a success, as fans really liked having different models to choose from.

Fans shouldn’t be surprised when the Switch 2 eventually launches an OLED model that’s going to look even better than this current LCD model. It’s not yet known what this system’s battery will be like, but an OLED model will likely launch with a better one. This is what Nintendo did before, and Valve even copied them for the Steam Deck OLED.

Since this new system is going to be backward-compatible with plenty of Switch 2 games, fans won’t be bothered by the lack of a new screen, at least not yet. LCD screens are totally fine and can make these games look really good, especially with that new 1080p resolution it will launch with. Even then, both systems will play the same games without much difference, so it will really depend on what fans want from their screens.
