The popular Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is reaching its end. Square Enix announced that the mobile game will end its services on October 6, 2026. This gives players just three months to enjoy the content it has to offer.
Essentially, Ever Crisis is a gacha game that compiled the entirety of Final Fantasy VII into a single, cohesive narrative, adding original story bits, with a completely new narrative focusing on Sephiroth’s younger years. It was an ambitious project. Sadly, it was also a gacha game, and that’s a major turn-off for a lot of fans.
Square Enix didn’t provide a reason for why they’re suddenly pulling the plug on the project. It may be because it never reached the success they had hoped for, or perhaps this was the plan all along — giving fans a new way to experience the OG game ahead of the FFVII Remake trilogy finale, with Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
It wouldn’t be the first project that gets canned rather unceremoniously. Do you remember FFVII: The First Soldier? I don’t blame you if you don’t, as it was a failed mobile battle royale that launched in November, 2021. It was shut down in January 2023.
As for Ever Crisis, players are no longer able to buy Red Crystals, the game’s premium currency. If you still have some in your possession, you’ll still be able to use them.
What will happen with the world Square had built with Ever Crisis? Hard to tell. Maybe they’ll rework it into a new HD-2D game like Final Fantasy Resonance. Could it be turned into an FFVII Revelation DLC? Only time will tell.
