  • Quick Answer: Final Fantasy Resonance is a new HD-2D RPG coming to multiple platforms this fall, featuring turn-based combat and classic hero summons.

Final Fantasy fans, we simply can't stop winning. Just mere days after the full reveal of FFVII Revelation and the addition of Tifa to Street Fighter 6, we got Final Fantasy Resonance at the June 9 Nintendo Direct.

Resonance is an HD-2D reimagining of a mobile game, Brave Exvius, however, it ditches all the gacha elements and turns it into a proper, fully featured RPG experience, the first in franchise history to receive the HD-2D treatment.

The game will feature a turn-based combat system, with most of the bells and whistles you'd come to expect from the series, like stagger meters, elemental weaknesses, and summons. One thing that will excite fans is the Visions of legacy Final Fantasy heroes mechanic.

Visions capture the essence of different characters. While you can obtain these for original characters, the likes of Cloud, Terra, or the Warrior of Light will have unique Visions that break away from the pixelated art and turn the game into a flashy cinematic spectacle to really accentuate how cool looking summoning one of these legendary heroes truly feels.

The game's main story will feature protagonist Rain and a band of companions who will set out on a journey to defend crystals that empower life across the world from Veritas of Dark.

Final Fantasy Resonance is set to release this upcoming October 22 on Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC. The standard edition will retail for $50, with a digital deluxe and Collector's Edition also available. I'll break it all down in further articles, so stay tuned.
