A sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has been confirmed numerous times, still using the codename Project Orion, but fans will patiently wait for this RPG. Previous reports have confirmed that the director of 2077’s acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion will be responsible for this sequel, so we can expect a quality product. Most fans just hope it won’t launch as a broken mess like its predecessor.
Recent reports have also suggested that this sequel will be first-person again. This makes sense since the FPS perspective was successful for the base game and Phantom Liberty. However, bringing this camera back makes us wonder if they should ditch the character customization feature.
Fans were initially excited to customize V's look, letting them determine this choom’s appearance. Unfortunately, reality quickly set in when gamers remembered that this was a first-person RPG that only goes third-person when riding vehicles. While you look at the mirror for a couple of moments, it seems like a pointless feature.
With Project Orion still in development, many hope that CD Projekt Red abandons this feature. The effort seen in Cyberpunk 2077 was admirable, but putting all that effort into ignoring the player’s work later on feels like a slap in the face. It’s a feature that can easily be dropped unless they go third-person like The Witcher.
Maybe it’s because this writer has been spending too much time with Marvel Rivals, but cosmetics for first-person shooters always felt hollow. Using these skins in games like Overwatch 2 and Doom Eternal felt pointless since you never see how cool these skins are in action. At least with Rivals, you can see how good Psylocke looks in that assassin’s one-piece bathing suit.
Considering how beloved characters like Geralt and Ciri are in The Witcher, the next Cyberpunk 2077 game can get away with an established character with a set look. They can let us choose their armor, weapons, and hairstyle, but keeping the character’s base appearance consistent wouldn’t be a huge issue.
The love for Cyberpunk will only increase before Project Orion officially comes out. Anime fans are still in love with the Edgerunners anime, which led to Lucy becoming a guest character in Guilty Gear Strive. Phantom Liberty and the base game have also done a great job of winning over disappointed fans, even if we still barely see V in full.
We’ll have to wait and see if this Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will bring back character customization. Maybe there will be more instances of third-person movement, but that’s just speculation and nothing more.
