There’s a new Persona game coming soon, but fans of the series might not like it.

Atlus kicks off the new year by teasing the reveal video for Persona’s 30th Anniversary celebration. The short clip showcases the series’ iconic protagonists, from Persona 5’s Joker down to the first Persona game’s unnamed main character.

What everyone is wondering, though, is whether Atlus is cooking something up for the series’ three decades in the industry. In a weird turn of events, the official X page for Nintendo’s Fitness Boxing series just dropped a cryptic post with the familiar Persona 5 menu style.

The menu was stylized in a way that resembles Persona 5’s text bubbles. Coated in the same black, white, and yellow color scheme, it was a conversation in Japanese between two unknown characters. The translations are as follows:

"???: What are you getting ready for?"

"???: Heh heh heh... This time, I’m preparing a training plan that’s a bit different from usual. After all, stamina is essential for a Phantom Thief!"

It’s already obvious that this is going to be a new Fitness Boxing based on Atlus’ best-selling Persona 5 franchise. Fans are already speculating what this teaser entails. Will it be a standalone Fitness Boxing game or a massive expansion for the newly released Fitness Boxing 3?

Many fans aren’t happy about this reveal. Longtime followers of the series have been craving news on Persona 6 or fresh footage from Persona 4 Revival. Instead, they were met with a teaser for a fitness game, once again calling out Atlus for heavily milking Persona 5.

For context, Fitness Boxing is one of Nintendo’s premier fitness games. Debuted in December 2018 for the Nintendo Switch, it uses the Joy-Con motion controllers to replicate the feel of punching and dodging in standard boxing. Players can sweat it out by training with their assigned coaches. They could even jam to an instrumental version of pop songs during each workout routine.

In this Persona 5 collaboration, we could likely expect the Phantom Thieves to act as the game’s coaches, with Ryuji (Skull) having the most intense routine. We could also expect to hear some of the game’s impressive soundtrack, including “Life Will Change” and “Last Surprise!” as background music.

Since 2018, the Fitness Boxing series has gained widespread appeal. As of 2024, the series has sold 3 million units worldwide, with individual titles even exceeding 1 million copies each. With its success, this prompted Nintendo to continue releasing new Fitness Boxing titles, including standalone entries featuring Hatsune Miku and Fist of the North Star.
