Let’s face it—this is finally the year we remove our clown makeup. Why? Well after nearly a decade of silence, we finally have fresh updates on some of the most elusive games of this generation. And thankfully, it looks like they’re actually sticking to a schedule this time around.
It all started with this month’s Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2, where Team Cherry casually dropped Hollow Knight: Silksong in the middle of the Switch 2’s highlight reel. The reveal got fans shocked by how casually it was shown. As a result, it overshadowed other reveals that came after it.
Everyone knows the story by now: Silksong was announced seven years ago, and for a while, it felt like the world had completely forgotten about it. (To be fair, there’s a lot of things that have happened in the past seven years.) The only Silksong content only came from meme pages and its engagement and hype are mostly found at Sony or Nintendo events—which, of course, never had anything related to Silksong. Until now.
With Hollow Knight: Silksong finally kicking off its marketing cycle again, it’s safe to expect we’ll actually get to play it this year. The stars are aligning for the folks at Team Cherry, especially with the upcoming launch of the Switch 2 this June, which is a perfect home for a game like Silksong.
But that wasn’t the only surprise in April’s Direct.
Toby Fox also made waves with a long-overdue update on DELTARUNE. Episodes 1 and 2 came out seven years ago, and fans have been waiting ever since to learn what happens to Kris and Susie. When it comes to Undertale fans, the anticipation isn’t quiet. The memes, the hopium, the copium are everywhere. As a result, it nearly outpaced even Silksong’s hype.
Now, it’s finally happening. Episodes 3 and 4 are officially coming this year. No solid release date yet, but the drought is over and the determination is back.
And then there’s Katana Zero—a game that might’ve flown under some people’s radars but has held a cult following ever since it dropped. If you’ve never played it, stop what you’re doing and go play it. If you liked Hotline Miami, this one’s for you: neon lights, synthwave soundtrack, and stylish ultraviolence in every scene.
The original game ended on a huge cliffhanger, and fans have been desperate to know what happens next to the protagonist, Zero. Much like the others on this list, Katana Zero was also released seven years ago—and it's been developed by just one guy, Justin. Fans have always respected the time and heart he’s poured into the game’s upcoming DLC. And now, with a new trailer out and buzz picking up again, it looks like we’re finally close to release. Best part? It’s free.
Fans were so hyped about the DLC’s return that some even offered to pay for it—just to support Justin, even though he’s choosing to release it at no cost.
So, what’s the deal here? Well, with concrete updates finally arriving for these long-lost indie legends, the world is healing. The makeup is smudging. The wigs are slipping. The clown costumes are slowly being packed away—at least until the next big DLC delay.
Disclaimer: None of this applies to Bloodborne fans waiting on that remaster. We all know it doesn’t exist.
