It’s been a dark few days for the gaming industry, as Xbox has once again laid off thousands of employees. The move has been criticized by many, with the decision subsequently canceling announced games by the company, and Microsoft is doing fine, making the layoffs feel unnecessary.

CEO and face of Xbox Phil Spencer responded to the news of all these firings he’s partially responsible for by… playing Indiana Jones and The Great Circle.

Fans on social media saw Spencer online on their Xbox Series console, revealing that he was playing the company’s Indiana Jones game. Seems like the company’s CEO felt so bad for firing people, he decided to play a game that was developed by some of those who have now lost their jobs. Naturally, the move was met with plenty of ridicule from the internet, as it should be.

Microsoft and Spencer gave some pretty tasteless comments after all of these layoffs were made. Because corporations love to make positives out of negatives, they assured fans that there are still games being made. Even the layoffs were supposedly good, as this will let Xbox “focus” on actually releasing games.

Keep in mind that it was Xbox that ruthlessly decided to purchase a number of gaming companies to compete with Sony and Nintendo. Even with all of these companies, they barely released any major games and fired employees who were trying to make a good product.

Unfortunately, this isn’t news to fans, as many are still burned by the time Microsoft decided to close down the studios that made Prey and Hi-Fi Rush. A lot of gamers gave up on Xbox that day, and more are looking to do the same thing now that Microsoft has shown that they don’t care about games and just want to make money.

Don’t be surprised if Xbox talks about wanting to make critically acclaimed games, after they fired people who made their critically acclaimed games. Unfortunately, even if it’s predictable, seeing the same company that closed down Hi-Fi Rush’s studio also shut down Perfect Dark’s dev studio continues to be infuriating. It feels like things are only going to get worse, and we need this AAA game bubble to explode, somehow.

Until then, we hope Phil Spencer enjoys that Indiana Jones game. It’s a good time made by good people he fired.
