It strips away affordable options, and soon, we won't even be able to borrow a disc from a friend or buy a second-hand copy, nor will you be able to trade in games. It's made gaming so inaccessible for a large group of people.

Xbox has done the total opposite. They've launched their disc-to-digital feature, and it feels extremely human-centric. The fact that you can insert a physical disc into your console and claim the digital license, then play it without having to swap media, feels like Xbox is really taking players into account. It allows people the option of borrowing a disc from a friend or buying a second-hand copy while still playing on their current-gen console.

Microsoft has given the community the best of both worlds: affordability and ownership of physical media, as well as the flexibility of a digital library.

I currently own a PS5, and yes, I still use it and buy games digitally (even though I hate the fact I don't actually 'own' these games). But seeing Xbox roll out a feature that rewards physical game owners AND budget-conscious players makes me want to ditch my PlayStation altogether. At the end of the day, the Xbox feels more economically sustainable, and if Microsoft continues to create features that keep gaming accessible, then my loyalty may eventually shift.

PlayStation's decision for an all-digital future relies on players willing to pay higher costs. Xbox, on the other hand, has proven that they respect player freedom. I wouldn't be surprised if plenty of people - including myself - switch ecosystems soon.
