There’s plenty of The Witcher content coming in the next couple of years. One thing fans shouldn't expect anytime soon, however, is The Witcher Remake, which has been put on hold until the release of the series’ fourth entry in 2028.

CD Projekt Red outlined its content roadmap for the next few years leading up to The Witcher 4. The schedule places 2026’s focus on releasing The Witcher 3: Remastered, followed by the upcoming Songs of the Past DLC in 2027, ultimately culminating in Ciri’s debut as the main franchise protagonist in 2028.

Responding to GameSpot, CD Projekt Red confirmed that developer Fool's Theory—which is working on The Witcher 3: Remastered and its DLC, as well as the remake of the original game—has put The Witcher Remake on pause. The studio currently has a lot on its plate, as it is also supporting CDPR with The Witcher 4.

The official statement provided reads as follows:

“The Fool’s Theory team is focused mainly on the development of Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, while a relatively small part of their team is supporting the development of The Witcher 4. As we have previously announced, the development of The Witcher Remake has been temporarily integrated with The Witcher 4 due to production process dependencies.”

The wait has been excruciating for fans. The remake was originally announced back in 2022, with Fool’s Theory acting as the main developer under CDPR's supervision. It’s set to be an ambitious open-world reimagining built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

Once 2028 rolls around and The Witcher 4 is out in the wild, it remains to be seen how quickly Fool’s Theory can pick back up where they left off. My take? We’re not seeing anything related to The Witcher Remake until 2029—or potentially even 2030.
