  • Quick Answer: Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave reintroduces weapon durability, forcing players to manage limited blade uses and inventory during high-stakes colosseum battles.

During the recent Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct, it was confirmed that a weapon degradation system would be included in the game.

Now, I have exceptionally high hopes for Fortune's Weave. The story of the Heroic Games, the time-skip twist, and the fact that you play all four routes simultaneously have convinced me to purchase it without hesitation.

However, there's one thing that's grinding my gears, and it's the fact that weapons will degrade over time. For some, it may not be that big of a deal, although I can't help but worry that it will do more harm than good.

Fortune's Weave Degrading Weapon Durability Feels Like a Step Back

When I heard that weapon degradation with strict weapon limits was being included in Fortune's Weave, I immediately felt a wave of inventory anxiety. I already knew this meant hoarding legendary weapons and babysitting my inventory so that I never lose a weapon I love.

I prefer when RPGs let us find and keep the coolest tools and allow us to discover what works with the party as we go. Forcing us to hoard weapons when I'm supposed to be taking down my opponents in a colosseum feels highly restrictive.

The entire premise of Dagsion's Heroic Games is that it's a major high-stakes tournament spectacle. Watching legendary contestants step onto the colosseum only to have their weapons shatter mid-duel completely runs the fantasy. I want to build a party full of masters of their craft, executing devastating techniques without counting down their remaining blade uses.

Removing weapon durability allows players to experiment with different weapon types across their party, which is something we've seen in previous Fire Emblem games. It makes no sense why Fortune's Weave doesn't have this - especially when the first arc is all about victories in the arena.

If anything needs to be numbered, it's when we use Blaze. Since it consumes our soul, it makes sense for the usage of Combat Arts to be numbered. But for weapons? It doesn't make sense at all.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave comes out on September 17. I'm praying that the weapon durability is forgiving and weapons don't break after a few uses, but I'm not banking on it.
