  • Quick Answer: Check out Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, showcasing gameplay and initial thoughts on combat before the review embargo lifts.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag is one of the most beloved titles in a series that seemingly has had plenty of highs and lows. Now that Resynced is just mere days away, we have the opportunity to showcase and talk a little bit about the game before our full review.

Do note that I can't really say whether I like Resynced or not until Wednesday, July 8 at 5:00 AM PDT/8:00 AM ET/1:00 PM GMT, when the review embargo lifts, but I wanted to showcase the overall vibe of the game.

First off, you can check out over 30 minutes of gameplay below. It includes spoiler-free main mission gameplay, naval combat, and navigation.

Again, I can't go into much detail, but the surprising thing about Black Flag for me so far is the combat. One of the things that made me drop AC Shadows was the decision to split how combat worked between both characters, with Naoe carrying the stealth portions while being utterly helpless against hordes of enemies when caught, while Yasuke was all about brute force, removing the freedom of choice when approaching encounters.

Luckily, Edward Kenway can do it all, and do so incredibly well. A welcome addition fans are already praising is the fact that auto-fail states are now gone, so if you're tailing someone or are trying to lurk in the shadows and get caught, your best course of action is to utilize the various skills, which work so well once you learn the rhythm of combat to stun and take down enemies swiftly.

Naval combat is a whole can of worms too. But for that, as I said, you'll have to wait until Wednesday. In the meantime, do enjoy the gameplay; we'll have more to talk about when it comes to Black Flag Resynced in the coming weeks.
