Just a day before the Opening Night Live presentation at Gamescom 2026, the official The Witcher X (Twitter) account shared an exciting update for fans.

They shared a video message from Michael Nowakowski, the Joint Chief Executive Officer of CD Projekt Red, where he encouraged fans to tune into Gamescom. While he confirmed that there won't be any Witcher 4 news, the studio will showcase The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past DLC.

However, Nowakowski did drop a couple of updates regarding The Witcher 4's development.

He stated that more than 500 people are working on The Witcher 4 right now. "This is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date,” the Joint CEO said.

It was also confirmed that The Witcher 4 is now aiming for a 2028 release. Nowakowski stated, “I know it’s a bit of a wait, and you’d love to play it sooner–but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait.”

The Witcher 4 will change protagonists and follow Ciri this time, as the monster hunter explores the world with her horse, Kelpie. The game is set to introduce new playable regions such as the Kovir region, which was only mentioned in previous games.
