Monster Hunter Wilds’ lack of Siege Quests makes the game much better… for now.
I say this as someone who’s been playing since release—and thank god we’re not seeing those long and tedious events that made the base version of Monster Hunter World kind of a slog.
The Lack of Zorah Magdaros Helped
Removing a quest like Zorah Magdaros from Monster Hunter Wilds was absolutely the right call. I really don’t want to spend another 30–40 minutes reloading cannon fire and ballistae just to wait for a big, slow monster to lumber toward me. I want to fight. I want to throw down with a monster, not climb on its back and wait for the Admiral to yell “Dragonator!”
Zorah’s absence has also helped Wilds’ narrative pacing. Once you start the game, you’re all set to hit the ground running—no need to slog through repetitive siege quests. I still remember dreading the Zorah fight in World, especially when I needed one specific part and had to go through that whole process again just for a chance at it.
Jin Dahaad Isn’t a Siege Quest
One thing a lot of players misunderstand is that Jin Dahaad’s fight in Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t a siege quest. It’s just a massive monster battle with some unique mechanics. Yeah, it’s got a terrifying Nova attack that can wipe your team, but it’s nowhere near as punishing as something like Alatreon, where you must pass an elemental DPS check even to succeed.
Jin Dahaad doesn’t have insta-fail mechanics either. Even if someone gets carted by the Nova, it’s just one faint, not a team wipe.
Thank God Rampage Isn’t Around
If you played Monster Hunter Rise, you probably remember how exhausting Rampage quests were. Technically not siege quests, but let’s be real—it felt like one, with waves of monsters “sieging” Kamura Village. I don’t care what anyone says—it was a bad game mode and didn’t belong in Monster Hunter.
It felt too arcade-y and lacked any real challenge or satisfaction.
How Will Lagiacrus Fare?
Now that Zoh Shia has taken over as the meta weapon supplier, Lagiacrus is set to shake things up in Title Update 2. We already know it’s going to be a huge boss battle, likely on par with Zoh Shia and Jin Dahaad. The big question is: will it be a siege-style quest like Alatreon or Kulve Taroth, or just another intense fight like Jin Dahaad?
There are so many ways Capcom could approach the Lagiacrus fight, and honestly, it doesn’t need underwater combat to shine. It just has to be fluid and engaging. After all, Monster Hunter Wilds is shaping up to be the most streamlined entry in the franchise yet.
I kind of hope Lagiacrus ends up being a siege quest—but not the kind of tired, monotonous one we got with Zorah Magdaros. Either way, I can’t wait for more.
