Stellar Blade is coming to Steam next month, and fans can’t wait to play this spectacle fighter on PC. The game was already a hit on PS5 for its combat and provocative outfits, so imagine what fans will do on PC. Unfortunately, not everyone will play this game, as Sony has again region-locked it from 130-plus countries.
This isn’t a first for Sony, but it’s still annoying how the Steam version of Stellar Blade will be region-locked. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the game also has Denuvo, so fans in these countries won’t be able to pirate it. We would understand the need for Denuvo if this game were available worldwide, but that isn’t the case.
Wccftech confirmed that this eye-candy action RPG wouldn’t need PSN access, which made many think it was safe from region-locking. Even without that feature, however, players in over 100 countries won’t be able to play this game on PC, according to Steam DB. Fans on Steam hope this is a mistake, but it wouldn’t be the first time.
PlayStation is notorious for this, as games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima, and God of War: Ragnarok still aren’t available in these countries. Some games, like Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, also became region-locked after originally being readily available. There was hope that Sony would drop this, but they still haven’t made these games available in other countries, which is pretty disappointing.
While it’s easy to joke about the amount of cheesecake in Stellar Blade, it’s still a solid game with fun combat. The fact that Sony is depriving over 100 countries of this game on PC is really annoying, especially since they could have made more money. It’s a confusing situation that prevents more gamers from enjoying these titles.
Admittedly, this game can be purchased physically on the PlayStation 5, but not everyone has one of those consoles. Some players prefer playing on their PC or Steam Deck, and they deserve the option to buy these games, no matter what country they’re from. It sometimes feels like Sony gets a sick kick out of preventing these countries from getting their games on PC.
There’s always hope that Sony and PlayStation will make these games available on PC one day. Most people like money, so Sony will have to cave in eventually. Until then, we can only wait and hope Stellar Blade will be available on other systems.
