The recent Xbox layoffs have led to a number of promising games getting canceled, including titles like Perfect Dark and Everwild. More news has since come out of other titles that were in development, but have now been canned due to these unnecessary cost-saving cuts. Zombie fans will be pleased to know, however, that State of Decay 3 isn’t one of those canceled games.... for now.

Gaming insider Jez Corden went on X and claimed that the open-world horror title hasn’t been canceled at the time of writing. However, given how unpredictable the cuts were, Corden feels that anything can happen, and this game might not be safe. That doesn’t mean it's going to be canceled, but Xbox’s actions have everyone on edge.

State of Decay 3 is part of a fairly popular Xbox series, no pun intended, so we can see why the company won’t be cutting that title. It might not be the most interesting or unique title out there, but the fact that it's from a successful franchise does mean Xbox sees importance in keeping this alive. That doesn’t justify the cancellations of games like Perfect Dark, but we sort of see why they made that decision.

Only time will tell if Microsoft continues to see value in the series or if they decide to cancel this entry as well. It’s been a while since we’ve seen anything legitimate from the game, so we can only hope games like this and Fable remain active in development. Microsoft can always do its tried-and-tested tactic of re-releasing these games on other consoles, since the company is starting to care less about exclusivity.

No release date for State of Decay 3 has been confirmed, so fans may want to start showing concern. That can always change in the next three or four months, but who knows what Xbox will do at this point? Whatever happens, it probably deserves better than being published by a company like Microsoft.
