Saber Interactive has started development on Space Marine 3. Publisher Focus Entertainment revealed via social media that development on the sequel to the critically acclaimed Space Marine 2 is underway.

Recently, the Hasbro CEO mentioned that Saber Interactive will be joining forces with Hasbro to create a unique project based on a beloved IP owned by the company. Now that looks to be several years away as Saber is unsurprisingly doing a follow-up to Space Marine 2.

Released on September 9, Space Marine 2 received very positive reviews. It currently sits at an 82 on Metacritic, with the user score also a high 81. In terms of sales, Saber Interactive didn't hand out hard numbers, but stated back in October that they had reached 4.5 million players.

Despite being a sequel, Saber Interactive did a wonderful job in making it a good entry point for newcomers. Anything related to Warhammer is indeed filled with lore, however, Space Marine 2 can be easily picked up and played by anyone. If you were looking for a classic Gears of War-like third-person shooter experience, it manages to scratch that itch perfectly.

Space Marine 3 is official!

Space Marine 2 was originally revealed in 2021. It's still unclear when development started. If Saber maintains a similar timeframe, it's looking promising for fans who dread waiting for five or more years for a sequel when developers tend to announce projects way in advance, perhaps too much.

At least the wait won't be as long as fans had to endure between the first Space Marine and its sequel. The original third-person shooter was developed by Relic Entertainment and published by THQ, that alone should tell you how old it is. But to be more specific, it was released in September 2011.

It'll be interesting to see how Saber Interactive expands upon the sequel as many felt the experience was on the shorter side of things and certain aspects of the multiplayer could have been fine-tuned.
