Saber Interactive is set to be working on a new game based on a very established Hasbro IP. The developers behind Space Marine 2 will lend their expertise according to Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks, as part of the "many collaborations" the company has in store.
According to Polygon, Cocks stated during an earnings meeting on February 20 that Hasbro and Saber Interactive will join forces to develop a new game based on an IP he is a personal fan of, without specifically stating which franchise Saber be tackling. He described the project as something that will combine "high-octane single-player action and amazing multiplayer with Saber’s Swarm tech.”
Hasbro hit it big with Baldur's Gate 3, with the RPG being directly inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, their licensing deal meant they got to reap the rewards of Lariat Studios' success.
It's hard to say what Saber Interactive could be working on. Most fans are gravitating toward a possible Transformers title. The franchise has a long history in the gaming industry, with some cult classics such as Transformers: War for Cybertron highly revered by fans.
We could also have a G.I Joe game in the works. Although considering that developer Atomic Arcade is working on a game featuring Snake Eyes, we could safely discard that Saber would also use their expertise to compete directly with a fellow studio.
Maybe Saber's ability to adapt a tabletop game such as Warhammer in such a unique way is what piqued Hasbro's interest. Why not get an action RPG based on Dungeons and Dragons? Or better yet, a third-person shooter Monopoly game where you need to actively seize the assets of opposing players who are swarmed in debt?
In any case, it'll be interesting to see what Saber Interactive and Hasbro are cooking up, just don't expect news to come relatively soon as by the looks of things, the partnership is rather fresh. If done correctly, both companies could have another smash hit in their hands.
