The Sonic Adventure games continue to be held in a pedestal by Dreamcast fans and Sonic diehards, in general. While these games have some dated mechanics, the fast gameplay and great soundtrack still resonate with many. Naturally, fans have been urging SEGA for a remake or remaster, but the company just isn’t interested.

In an interview with Shacknews, Sonic Team boss Takahashi Iizuka said that they acknowledge the requests for an SA remaster or remake, but feel it would be too much work. Iizuka says that’s energy he would rather put in a new Sonic game instead of making these older titles more appealing to modern gamers.

Considering how the Sonic Adventure games have inspired numerous titles in the blue hedgehog’s history, we’re surprised SEGA hasn’t remade or remastered this already. Outside of releasing Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, these games haven’t gotten a proper re-release since. Fans thought that would change after Shadow’s appearance in the Sonic 3 movie, but that’s just not the case.

SEGA isn’t above remastering or remaking titles. They just announced Persona 4 Revival during an Xbox Showcase and released Sonic X Shadow Generations, which is a remaster of Sonic Generations with a new Shadow campaign. We’re even seeing a new version of Yakuza 0 for the Switch 2.

Granted, remasters and remakes are really popular right now, so SEGA could be trying to fool fans before secretly releasing two Sonic Adventure remasters. Fans still enjoy the gameplay of these titles, dated elements and all, so a re-release with QOL improvements or better visuals would be a blessing. This could just all be wishful thinking, but it looks like we’re getting new Sonic games before an Adventure remaster.

Considering how much SEGA loves Sonic, we’re sure his next game is going to have some more influences from Sonic Adventure. We might not get a re-release anytime soon, but the character will always get new games. He’s getting a brand-new cart racer with crossovers later this year after all.
