Sonic Adventure is getting a remaster. Now, before you get excited, it isn't technically a new version developed by SEGA, but a fanmade project created utilizing NVIDIA's RTX Remix modding tools titled Sonic Adventure Remixed.

The company announced on May 19 a competition for modders to modernize classic games with improved graphics for a chance to win $50k. By using NVIDIA RTX Remix, a platform that allows modders to implement features such as full ray tracing, remastered assets, and DLSS 4, the beloved Sonic Adventure looks better than ever.

Gotta go fash in HD

While it isn't a proper official HD remaster of the old SEGA Dreamcast title, it's something fans of the Blue Hedgehog should look into if they're looking to replay a childhood classic.

Still, even with this fresh coat of paint, some fans aren't particularly happy. A Sonic fan account shared some screenshots of the project online, which were received with almost unanimous criticism by the community.

In any case, SEGA is not one to take fan projects down (unlike a certain company that owns Pokémon). The company has previously stated that they are perfectly fine with fan projects such as games or other media, just as long as they are not monetized.

If there's enough support for Sonic Adventure Remixed, it may show the development team behind Sonic that there's demand for a proper remaster of some of the character's most memorable 3D adventures.

Sonic Adventure may not stand the test of time in terms of gameplay, at least in my opinion. But there's no denying that's an important piece of nostalgia for many fans of the franchise and if there was ever a moment to show SEGA fans would be fully behind a remaster.

You can check out some of the other games that have received fan enhancements using NVIDIA's tool down via their website. They include classics like Portal 2, Half-Life, and more.

Speaking of Sonic Adventure, when are we getting a third installment, SEGA?
