BlizzCon 2026 took place, bringing major announcements to most of Blizzard's franchises, including StarCraft. Overwatch had its spotlight before the World Cup action kicked off, and Team 4 revealed that Sombra and Roadhog will receive major reworks next season.
Surprisingly, Sombra will receive a role change and become part of the Support group. As a result, her kit will change to add new healing abilities and lose some, like the Virus. She will retain some aspects, such as her primary weapon and the translocator.
On the other hand, Roadhog won't get a role change, but his kit will look different once the new season starts. Although his hook ability remains intact, he will have a new Trash Compactor ability to absorb projectiles.

As you can see, Sombra will receive more changes, as some of her abilities will now heal allies to make up for her new role. One of Roadhog's major perks will go well with the new Trash Compactor ability.
Sombra was also featured in the new Doctrine animated trailer, where Doomfist, Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra break the newest hero joining the game out of a prison in the middle of nowhere.
Doctrine is the 54th playable hero and will join the Support lineup, arriving after Mizuki and Jetpack Cat at the start of this year.
