Over 30 years after helping define a genre, DOOM shows no signs of slowing down.

Bethesda's updated DOOM + DOOM II bundle just gave longtime fans a solid reason to return—and maybe even get their butts kicked all over again. John Romero's latest campaign, SIGIL II, has officially entered the collection.

It's a full-on challenge that even Romero acknowledges pushed him to his limits. SIGIL II launched as a free add-on in 2023 and was a spiritual sequel to Romero's 2019 SIGIL expansion.

That first entry was intense, but SIGIL II pulls no punches. After the original DOOM, this new episode throws you into Hell's harsh architecture, filled with traps, precarious walkways, and surprise ambushes from every angle.

SIGIL I was made so Romero could get through each level from a pistol start without saving, whereas SIGIL II ditches that mercy. According to Romero, finishing this new chapter under those same rules would be nearly impossible, even for him.

The difference now is how easy it is to jump in. Players once had to sift through the mod section of the DOOM bundle to get to SIGIL II. But the most recent update places it directly on the campaign select screen, alongside other official episodes and expansions.

It might have taken some time (possibly because of licensing delays), but it now feels like a true part of the official DOOM universe. Not only did Bethesda bundle it in, but they also refined the entire package with bug fixes, mod support tweaks, and stability improvements across all platforms.

This release also couldn't have come at a better time. With DOOM: The Dark Ages coming soon, SIGIL II is a solid way for players to warm up before jumping into the next mainline entry.

It's hard, it's unforgiving, and it highlights how DOOM's core design is still powerful enough to rival today's shooters. Even with all the sequels, mods, and reimaginings over the years, it's still thrilling to walk into a room full of demons and barely escape alive.

So, if you thought you'd seen everything DOOM had to offer, think again. SIGIL II proves there's still hell left to raise—and it'll drag you back in whether you're ready or not.
